The History of Walker Ford
Three Generations of Family, Service, and Community Since 1957
For nearly seven decades, Walker Ford has been more than a place to buy and service vehicles—it has been a family tradition built on trust, hard work, and a commitment to serving the people of Tampa Bay.
The Walker story began in 1957 when E.B. “Doc” Walker opened his Ford dealership on Treasure Island, Florida. From the very beginning, Doc believed that success wasn’t measured by the number of vehicles sold, but by the relationships built with customers and employees. His philosophy was simple: treat customers like family, and treat employees like family. That guiding principle continues to define Walker Ford today.
A Humble Beginning on Treasure Island
The original dealership on Treasure Island reflected the optimism and growth of post-war Florida. As families flocked to the Gulf Coast and communities expanded, Walker Ford became a trusted destination for generations of local drivers.
What started as a small neighborhood dealership quickly earned a reputation for honesty, personal service, and community involvement. Customers returned year after year, often bringing their children and eventually their grandchildren back to the dealership.
A Family Business Across Generations
The Walker family’s involvement in the dealership has never been limited to ownership. It has always been a hands-on commitment.
Doc Walker’s son, Frank Walker, began working at the dealership while still in junior high school, washing cars and learning every aspect of the business from the ground up.
Over the years, Frank worked in virtually every department before assuming leadership of the company when his father retired.
Under Frank’s leadership, Walker Ford continued to grow while maintaining the family-centered culture that customers had come to know and trust.
Today, the third generation of the family continues that tradition. Frank’s son, Weston Walker, grew up in the dealership much like his father before him, learning the business firsthand and helping guide Walker Ford into the future. The family’s legacy now extends to a fourth generation as the Walker story continues to unfold.
Building for the Future in Clearwater
As the Tampa Bay region expanded, Walker Ford recognized the opportunity to better serve customers throughout Pinellas County and beyond.
The move to Clearwater represented a major milestone in the dealership’s history. The new location provided room for expanded sales, service, and parts operations while allowing the company to continue delivering the personal attention that had defined the business since 1957.
The Clearwater facility became a symbol of Walker Ford’s long-term commitment to the community and positioned the dealership for decades of future growth.
Growing with the Community
Over the years, Walker Ford has evolved from a small local dealership into one of the area’s most recognized Ford retailers. Yet the core values established by Doc Walker remain unchanged.
Today, Walker Ford serves drivers throughout Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Largo, Pinellas Park, and the greater Tampa Bay area. The dealership offers new and pre-owned vehicle sales, service, parts, collision repair, and commercial vehicle support while continuing to emphasize customer relationships above all else.
Many employees have spent decades with the company, and many customer relationships span multiple generations—an achievement that reflects the trust earned through years of consistent service.
Excellence Through the Years
The dealership’s commitment to customer satisfaction has been recognized through multiple Ford President’s Awards, one of Ford Motor Company’s highest honors for dealership excellence. These awards reflect the dedication of the Walker Ford team and the loyalty of the customers who have supported the business through the years.
